I made it several times. I used Success brand and another organic one..no problem. Then I ordered a big jug from Amazon, made the salad and got ill. I had purchased Trader Joes quinoa last month, and it was pre-washed. Silly me, grabbed the Mixed TJ's quinoa last week, and made a HUGE batch, without rinsing. I assumed it was also pre-washed, and it wasn't part of the instructions (it was in a separate paragraph above.). I ate it three times (main + 2 leftovers.) And I realized after the 3rd time, it was the quinoa giving me issues.
OMG... the pain in my upper abdomen felt like a severe cramp, and lots of burping and heartburn. I will never touch Quinoa again. Period. thought I was having a heart attack the pain was terrible. All these steps and tricks to just eat the stuff, is just not worth the work. Like most other people, I also ate this many times before ever having a problem. Then all of the sudden the symptoms began, which have progressively gotten worse each time eating thereafter. Classic knee hugging, excruciating stomach pains coming in and waves, accompanied with trying to decide whether I want to shit my brains out or vomit or both at the same time (which unfortunately this most recent incident my body wouldn’t let me do either but instead got the next symptoms), severe headache, fever/chills, bodyaches, dizziness, and disorientation.

I wish I would’ve read this when I felt at my worst last night and couldn’t vomit or get it out of me, definitely would’ve used a laxative to help remove it from my system.

Unbelievable that the food can make you feel worse than any flu that I’ve ever had in my whole life. Also, the time frame in which my symptoms lasted has increased. The first two bad reactions only lasted for about 12 hours with an onset of symptoms happening within two hours of eating. Yesterday I had a vegan protein bar which had quinoa in it unbeknownst to me. I didn’t get stomach cramping for about 10 hours but since then feel like death 💀.

To whoever is reading this know that misery does love company and we feel your pain. Someone else commented earlier and said the quinoa is the devil! Agreed. Never never never ever again.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5803621650074627930.post-54180471730191088612021-12-10T18:51:45.248-08:002021-12-10T18:51:45.248-08:00ugh! lesson learned. I ate about a 1/2 cup portion of quinoa tonight and within 3 hours I was in excruciating pain!! Doubled over, feeling the chills, feeling like I was either going to pass out or die. It’s been 9 hours since I ate it and I’m still in major discomfort! I can’t believe it. And my quinoa was organic and I washed it thoroughly before cooking it. I think the Pepto-Bismol I took has helped me some, but I’m not sure as it’s this many hours later. So it could just be time. I don’t know but I will never in my life eat quinoa again!!! Ever!!!!!! This was the first time having it and I didn’t know I was supposed to wash/soak it. I’ve had food poisoning before and this is exactly that, sharp pain in one side of my stomach and in the upper rib area, followed by very severe cramps in my stomach then lower abdomen, bloating, gas, and then nausea and throwing up. This all started about three hours after eating it. I never knew quinoa could do this, I’m throwing away the rest of the the bag and never having this again, I’m not even going to try to wash and soak it after reading of how that doesn’t help sometimes, It’s too bad because I thought I found a good alternative to rice. Then one night after having one for dinner I honestly thought I was going to have to go to the ER! I already have a terrible stomach and have dealt with horrible stomach pains, hours of diarrhea, you get the picture. However, this was something COMPLETELY different! Very intense twisting pain right at my navel, I spent the entire night in the fetal position unable to move/fall asleep. At the time I had no idea what it was from. A little while later I was out on a work lunch and we all ordered Quinoa Bowls. This time the reaction came on in less than an hour - sooo painful it was difficult to drive home. My husband is the one who put 2 and 2 together that it was the quinoa!

Lo and behold, earlier today I had a few crackers that apparently had quinoa in them and back to the pain. Only had a few, so hopefully won't be as bad this time around.

I'm also curious if anyone has similar (albeit lesser) reactions to bananas or eggs? Or rather -- not the bandaids themselves. We used to think it was the bandaids, but when she got her ears pierced and go the same reaction we realized it wasn't bandaids but the isopropyl alcohol wash used to sterilize her ears before the piercing. That same solution -- rubbing alcohol -- is what causes the rash. It may be that you have been thinking it was bandaids but instead it's the wound wash before the bandaid goes on that causes the problem. Now, is there a connection between oxalic acid -- the suspected problem ingredient in raw spinach and quinoa -- and the rubbing alcohol? Ate it for breakfast yesterday with fruit. Last night I had diarrhea. I made a soup out of the remainder of it, not knowing what may be causing the problem. I had a big bowl of soup today, and still have the diarrhea. I am not eating oils or dairy, and there was nothing in the soup to cause the problem, just rice, beans, vegs. I may try a little more of a big pot of it I made tomorrow to see if I still have the issue. Everything is just going through me, and I can see the little seeds all over inside the toilet.
